#RUNJXN - Day 11

Image
The day of dead ends! So many long dead end streets in my route today. But that didn’t mean that I didn’t still get to see some fascinating things! A tiny little cemetery at the end of one was completely unexpected. I found some very old markers and discovered that most graves bore the Star of David or Hebrew inscriptions. Another wound down and around with a “behind the scenes” view of the magnificent Withington Stadium. I took a moment to visit Austin Blair Park and learn about his ties to Jackson. I finally ran all of Detroit Street. Despite my best efforts, I kept missing tiny little segments here and there. I barely missed the hailstorm. It was a good day in my quest to run  #everysinglestreet  in  #jacksonmi

#RUNJXN - Day 10

More  @bright_walls  murals (pictured is  @0uizi ) and another stop on the Underground Railroad tour: The First Congregational Church, founded by an Underground Railroad agent; several deacons also were agents! I ran by (and through) the first Michigan State Prison, with its 25 feet stone walls. It looks like a castle but always gives me an eerie feeling. The history within those walls has a weight and is clearly palpable. The I love the pop of beauty in and surrounding  @art634injackson . It was an interesting and colorful 11.0 miles today in my pursuit of running  #everysinglestreet  in  #jacksonmi

#RUNJXN - Day 9

#RUNJXN  - Day 9 Thought I was starting to get the hang of this...then realized a missed a whole East-west street in the neighborhood I was working in Ward 2 🤷‍♀️. BUT today had all kinds of cool stuff to see! Ran by the world famous Hinkley Bakery and one of my favorite  @bright_walls  murals. The Amtrak went by, and I said a prayer for our Healthcare heroes at @allegiancehealth . I also discovered the abandoned Allen School, which I would love to learn more about. Jackson has breathtaking churches in nearly every neighborhood, I’ve noticed.

#RUNJXN - Day 8

Image
#RUNJXN  - Day 8 It was technically my day off, but it was far too pretty to pass up an easy run with  @colbysharp  and the doggo. Jackson High School is magnificent. The inscription on the tower, built in 1927, says “Faith without credulity Conviction without bigotry Charity without condescension Self-respect without vanity Meekness with power.” We also ran past a wishing well, and a little tiny house that Colby and I dreamed of buying when we were a newly married couple. It was a good day in my effort to run  #everysinglestreet  in beautiful  #jacksonmi   !

#RUNJXN - Day 7

Image
#RUNJXN  - Day 7 in my pursuit of running  #everysinglestreet  in  #jacksonmi I found an awesome mural on the far southeast point of Ward 1, which I’m fairly confident I completed today, but I need to double check for sure. I also found myself transitioning from neighborhoods to more industrial streets, but the Grand River made an appearance in some unexpected places, too.

#RUNJXN - Day 5

Image
#RUNJXN  - Day 5 of my attempt to run  #everysinglestreet  in Jackson, MI. 10.2 miles knocking out more of Ward 1! Loved seeing kids outside playing in their front yards. It was crazy how fast the neighborhoods changed in personality from one block to the next. At one point, I found myself on a stretch of dirt road almost completely surrounded by woods. Of course, the “Under the Oaks” memorial is super cool. Crazy to think about the history that was made eighth here in this spot. I’m excited to check out the other tour stops, too!
